Softball Prepares for BIG EAST Tournament

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-The Boston College Eagles will go for their third straight BIG EAST Tournament championship on May 8th and 9th in Storrs , CT.
BC finished third in the BIG EAST with an 11-5 record in conference play. The Eagles will take on second seed Seton Hall at noon time on Saturday.
Junior Mary Dietz(San Manuel, AZ) set a new BIG EAST and school record for most strikeouts in a game with 17, in BCs 6-0 win over Seton Hall back on April 11th.
The Pirates took game two 4-3. Junior Gretchen Thompson(Brea, CA) pitched just two innings give up four runs on seven hits before being relieved by Dietz. In the two games versus Seton Halll Dietz pitched 12 scoreless innings allowing three hits striking out 23.
Notre Dame(16-0) finished in first place in the BIG EAST, followed by Seton Hall(12-4) while Connecticut secured the fourth seed with a 9-7 conference record.
Dietz went 8-1 in BIG EAST play with a 1.69 ERA with 83 strikeouts. Only a junior, Dietz holds the all-time strikeout record with 241 career strikeouts.

The winner of Sundays championship game will earn the leagues automatic bid to the 32-team NCAA Division I Championship.
