Men's Basketball Downs Monmouth, 62-44

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman guard Clinton Sims scored 16 points and junior forward Michael Cotton netted 12 points to lead Boston College to a 62-44 win over Monmouth in a non-league contest in Conte Forum.
The host Eagles led 31-22 at halftime, before Monmouth went on a 10-2 run to close the BC advantage to one point with 14:29 to play. Boston College, though, regrouped and outscored the visiting Hawks, 21-6, over the next 10 minutes. In this stretch that extended the home lead to 54-38, Cotton registered seven points, while three freshmen Sims, Kenny Walls and Brian Ross combined for 10 points. Monmouth could never trim the margin below 12 points.
In the first half, Monmouth was within two points 11-9 with 11:44 remaining, before BC reeled off nine consecutive points to take a 20-9 advantage. The Eagles led by as many as 13 points late in the half, before Monmouth narrowed its deficit to nine points at the intermission.
Boston College returns to action on Tuesday, November 24 against Fordham. The game will be played in Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y. Game time is 9 p.m.
