McGowan Leads NE Collegiate Baseball League in Hitting

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College first baseman Sean McGowan (Burlington, Mass./Burlington HS), playing for the Rhode Island Reds in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, leads the league in hitting with a 448 batting average.
The Reds have a 4-5 record through games of June 22.
McGowan earned All-ECAC first team honors and All-Northeast Region first team accolades in 1998. He was Boston Colleges top hitter, finishing with a .432 batting average (63-for-146) in 39 games. He also led the Eagles with 16 home runs, three triples, 49 runs, 55 RBIs and 129 total bases. The first baseman/pitcher, who just finished his junior year, registered two or more hits in 22 games, including three four-hit contests. He had 18 multiple-RBI games. On the mound, McGowan made six relief appearances, totalling 5.0 innings.
McGowan was one of three Boston College players to play in the 1998 New England College All-Star Game. McGowan, along with teammates Jeff Waldron (catcher; Lynn, Mass.) and Steve Langone (designated hitter; Reading, Mass.), played in the game at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn. on Monday, June 1.

Waldron and second baseman Mike Gambino (Garrison, N.Y.) are playing with the Orleans Cardinals in the Cape Cod League ... Third baseman Jeff Mackor (Salem, N.H.), who will begin his freshman year at Boston College this fall, enjoyed an outstanding senior season at St. Johns Prep. The Catholic Conference MVP played in the EMass. North-South All-Star Game on June 21, and then played in the Massachusetts-Connecticut All-Star Game at Fenway Park on June 24.
