CHESNUT HILL, Mass. - Quarterback Tim Hasselbeck completed 14 of 24 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns Saturday at Alumni Stadium in Boston College's second scrimmage of the 1999 spring practice season. The 6-1 junior from Norfolk, Mass., connected with wide receiver Dedrick Dewalt on touchdown throws of 12 and 54 yards.
Dewalt, a 5-9 sophomore from Chicago, led all BC receivers with 9 catches for 120 yards. Redshirt freshman Jamal Burke (6-0, Brockton, Mass.) caught five passes for 78 yards.
Junior running back Cedric Washington (Holyoke, Mass.) led the squad in rushing with 24 carries for 78 yards, including a long of 16. Senior Carlton Rowe (Huntington, N.Y.) carried 22 times for 75 yards.
BC coach Tom O'Brien says the team has shown improvement in the past week. "We were much improved since the scrimmage a week ago," O'Brien said. "There was more consistency on the offensive side of the ball, and the ball wasn't on the ground nearly as much. We did a better job on defense this week of stopping the run and rallying to the pass. But I know, and our team knows, that we are a long way from where we need to be. Now we need to get back to work and finish on a high note next Saturday at our spring scrimmage."
The annual Boston College Jay McGillis Memorial Spring game will kick off at 1 p.m. next Saturday (April 24) in Alumni Stadium.
