BOSTON (AP) - Mike Cloud rushed for over 100 yards for the third consecutive game and had three touchdowns as Boston College beat Temple 31-7 Saturday.
Cloud, who gained 200 and 156 yards, respectively, in victories over Georgia Tech and Rutgers, carried 27 times for 196 yards as the Eagles (3-0, 2-0 Big East) extended their best start since opening 7-0-1 six years ago.
Cloud, who leads the conference in rushing, has seven touchdown runs this year. His first, a 2-yarder, tied it 7-7 late in the opening quarter. The second, also a 2-yard run, made it 21-7 midway into the third. His final carry of the day, an 85-yard burst up the middle, made it 31-7.
Temple (0-3, 0-1) moved ahead 7-0 when Stacey Mack scored on a 3-yard run two plays after the Owls recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff. Fulton Fryer fell on Jermaine Walker's fumble at the Eagles 19.
The Eagles, who started slowly offensively, tied the game on Cloud's first touchdown run with 52 seconds left in the opening quarter, capping a 10-play, 80-yard march.
After the Owls' Dave Nicholl missed a 45-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter, Boston College struck quickly, using just three plays to take a 14-7 lead on Scott Mutryn's 10-yard pass to Anthony DiCosmo. On the scoring drive, Mutryn was 3-for-3 for all of the 72 yards.
After holding Temple to three plays on the initial possession of the second half, the Eagles took control, marching 12 plays for 52 yards before Cloud's second scoring run made it 21-7. The drive was kept alive with an interference penalty in the end zone, coming on third-and-goal from the 4 to give the Eagles a first down at the 2.
John Matich's 35-yard field goal early in the final quarter made it 24-7.
