Baseball Tops Pittsburgh, 12-9

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Senior left fielder Chang Choe hit two home runs, including a seventh-inning grand slam, to lift Boston College to a 12-9 BIG EAST win over Pittsburgh at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond. Choe, whose other home run was a three-run shot in the fifth inning, finished the game with seven RBI.
BCs junior first baseman Sean McGowan hit a two-run homer in the third inning, raising his season home run total to 16.
Sophomore pitcher Steve Langone allowed just three earned runs in seven innings of work to gain his fourth victory of the season for the Eagles. He fanned eight batters.
Trailing 4-3, Boston College (17-23-1) scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Junior catcher Jeff Waldrons RBI double tied the game at 4-4, before Langones single scored Waldron with the go-ahead run. Choe then hit a three-run blast to finish the innings scoring.
Pittsburgh (12-27-1) trimmed its deficit to 8-6 with two runs in the seventh inning, but BC answered with four runs in the bottom half of the same frame to take a 12-6 advantage. Choes grand slam accounted for all the Eagles runs, scoring senior center fielder Brendan Levesque (double), McGowan (intentional walk) and Langone (single).
The visiting Panthers closed the scoring in the ninth inning. Sophomore catcher David Hoopes hit a three-run homer, his third round-tripper of the season.
GAME NOTES: Six of the Eagles nine hits went for extra bases. In addition to the three home runs, Levesque doubled twice and Waldron doubled once ... McGowan was 1-for-2 at the plate. He grounded out in the first inning and homered in the third, before being intentionally walked in the fifth and seventh stanzas ... Sophomore lefthander Andy Sullivan pitched two innings of relief for the Eagles, striking out four.
