CHESTNUT HILL - Matt Lederhos, a highly-regarded pitcher/shortstop from Westwood (Mass.) High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Boston College, beginning with the 2000 season, according to head coach Peter Hughes.
Lederhos, a righthander, captured Tri-Valley League MVP honors as a junior at Westwood High School. He finished the 1998 season with a 5-2 pitching record. He registered 87 strikeouts in 51.0 innings. He also recorded two saves.
At the plate, Lederhos finished with a .478 batting average. He hit five home runs.
"I'm very pleased that Matt will be joining our program," said Hughes, who accepted the Eagles head coaching position in July 1998. "He was one of the most highly sought-after players in New England, and we're glad to have his signature on our first recruiting class."
