CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Senior center fielder Brendan Levesque hit two home runs and drove in three runs to lead host Boston College to a 10-5 win over Northeastern at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond.
Levesque also recorded one double to finish with three hits. Boston College finished the day with six home runs. Junior first baseman Sean McGowan, senior left fielder Chang Choe, sophomore right fielder Mike Quirk and freshman shortstop Mike Hubbard each hit one home run.
Levesque's two-run homer in the first inning gave BC a 2-0 lead, before Northeastern used two home runs to take a 3-2 lead in the top-half of the second inning. Quirk evened the score with a solo shot in the bottom half of the same inning.
BC took the lead for good with three runs on four hits in the third stanza. Levesque led off the inning with a double and scored on McGowan's one-out single. Choe followed with a two-run home run to put the Eagles ahead, 6-3.
Northeastern cut the BC lead to one, 6-5, with two fourth-inning runs, but BC freshman lefthander Chris Gannon came on in relief in the fifth inning and held the visiting Huskies scoreless (and just one hit) in his three innings of work. Sophomore Jaime Quiros and McGowan each threw one scoreless inning to close the game.
BC extended its lead with one run in the fifth, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh. Hubbard belted his first collegiate home run over the left-field fence in the sixth inning and, one out later, Levesque followed with an inside-the-park homer off the left-center field wall. McGowan finished the scoring with a leadoff home run in the seventh inning, his seventh round-tripper of the season.
BC finished the game with 16 hits, including eight extra-base hits.
Gannon earned the win for the Eagles, raising his collegiate record to 2-0. Freshman Erik Olson started the game for the victors, allowing six hits in four innings.
