Baseball Captains Set for 1999 Season

Boston College seniors Sonny Nictakis (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and Jeff Waldron (Lynn, Mass.) were elected team captains for the 1999 baseball season, according to first-year head coach Peter Hughes.
Nictakis has been an instrumental leader at Boston College for three years. He served as a back-up catcher last season, appearing in five games. Nictakis also served as the President of Boston Colleges Student-Athlete Advisory Board last year.
Waldron played in and started 39 games behind the plate for the Eagles last spring. He had a .340 batting average with seven home runs and 33 runs batted in. Waldron was second on the team with 13 doubles.
Boston College begins its season with a trip to Florida from February 26 to March 6. The Eagles will play an exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox on March 5.

* Peter Hughes enters his first season as head coach of Boston College. Hughes comes to the Heights from Trinity University in San Antonio where he compiled a 53-20 record in two years.
* Senior infielder Mike Gambino will serve as the President of the 1998-99 Student-Athlete Advisory Board.
* BC returns 20 lettermen and 11 starters from last season's squad.
* Junior outfielder Mike Quirk ranked 14th nationally in 1998 with 15 doubles.
