All-Big East Softball Honors Announced

CHESTNUT HILL, MA -- Six Boston College softball players earned All-BIG EAST Conference honors. In a vote by the leagues head coaches, sophomores Mary Dietz (San Manuel, AZ) and Chris Vicari (Totowa, NJ) were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Sophomore pitcher Lauren Fischetti (Brightwaters, NY) and freshman catcher/infielder Jennifer Perrotta (Carlstadt, NJ) earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors. Summer Jarratt (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Perrotta were voted to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team. Boston College head coach Jennifer Finley was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year and Perrotta earned BIG EAST Rookie of the Year honors.
Dietzs selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team marked the second time that she received the honor. The sophomore pitcher earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors as a freshman, was voted BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, and was a member of the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team in 1997. Dietz registered a 16-5 record this season and broke the BIG EAST single-season strikeout record with 101 in 13 appearances. She also tied her school record of 15 strikeouts in a single game twice during the 1998 season. Dietz was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week twice during the season (April 6, April 27).
Vicari was named the Most Outstanding Player of the BIG EAST Tournament after hitting two home runs, including a three-run shot in the championship game. The sophomore infielder had a 1.000 tournament slugging percentage and drove in five runs in three games and recorded 17 putouts at first base. Vicari finished the regular season with a .307 batting average and was tied for the lead in the BIG EAST with five home runs.
Fischetti finished the regular season with a 16-5 overall record and a 1.58 ERA. The sophomore earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors on April 20, after leading the Eagles to five conference wins in one week. Perrotta, a freshman catcher/infielder led Boston College with a .365 BIG EAST batting average. She registered three doubles and five home runs in 17 conference games, and was sixth in the BIG EAST in batting average. Jarratt was named to the All-Rookie team after batting .289 in 44 games for the Eagles. The freshman infielder hit seven doubles and had 12 RBI.
