Men's Basketball Falls to Iona, 71-63

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. ? Sophomore forward Nakiea Miller registered 15 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots to lead Iona to a 71-63 win over host Boston College before a crowd of 3,895 in Conte Forum.
Senior forward Tariq Kirksay led Iona with 20 points.
Iona (4-5) jumped out to a 7-1 lead early in the contest and did not allow the host Eagles to score a field goal until freshman Troy Bell hit a jumper with 12:35 remaining in the opening half. BC evened the game at 7-7, before Iona regained the advantage with a 6-0 run.
Boston College took its only lead of the night, 16-15, on a tip-in by junior Jonathan Beerbohm with 4:45 left in the first half. Iona, however, closed the half with a 9-4 rally to gain a 24-20 edge at the intermission. The Eagles? 20 points marked the team?s lowest scoring half of the season.
The visiting Gaels scored the first five points of the second half to take a 29-20 edge with 19:09 remaining. Iona maintained that advantage for just more than six minutes before BC chipped away and eventually tied the game at 46-46 on sophomore Brian Ross? lay-in with 7:51 to play. Iona scored the next four points and never relinquished the lead.
Boston College (8-4) outscored Iona, 54-43, from the field, but the visitors outscored the home team, 28-9, from the foul line.
Junior guard Xavier Singletary led Boston College with 15 points, while Bell added 14 points.
