NORTH ANDOVER - Merrimack sophomore forward Greg Classen?s goal at 4:39 of the third period broke a scoreless tie and led the host Warriors to a 2-0 HOCKEY EAST win over Boston College before a crowd of 3,130 at the Volpe Complex.
Junior forward John Pyliotis added an insurance goal for the Warriors at 17:03.
The game marked the Eagles? third consecutive loss. BC last lost three consecutive games in February 1997. The game also marked the first time BC had been held scoreless since Jan. 22, 1999, a 3-0 loss to Providence.
Boston College registered double-digit shot totals in each of the three periods, outshooting the home team in each stanza. BC finished the game with a 36-20 shot advantage.
BC junior Scott Clemmensen finished with 18 saves, while Merrimack?s Tom Welby made 36 saves.
The Eagles travel to Durham, N.H. to play New Hampshire on Saturday, Nov. 20. Game time is 7 p.m. (The game will be televised by WMUR-TV Channel 9, an ABC affiliate in Manchester, N.H.).
Notes: BC held Merrimack scoreless on seven power-play opportunities. The Eagles were 0-for-2 with a man advantage.
