Men's Soccer Falls To West Virginia, 2-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Guido Christofori's goal 1:31 into overtime period lifted West Virginia to a 2-1 victory over Boston College in men's soccer action at the Newton Campus soccer fields. With the win, WVU improves to 9-3-1 (5-1-1 in the BIG EAST) on the season and the loss drops BC to 3-5-1 (1-5 in the BIG EAST).
Christofori received a pass from Chin Orih and dribbled in to face goalkeeper Chris Hamblin (Bristol, England) one-on-one. His shot sailed in the goal over a diving Hamblin.
Boston College opened the scoring when junior Kevin Boyd (Del Mar, Calif.) headed in a ball off a free kick by sophomore Chris Cleary (MIlton, Mass.), giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead in the game's second minute of play.
In the 48th minute, West Virginia's Abdul Caulker put in an Andy Koenig cross to tie the game at 1-1.
The physical game included four yellow cards (three for WVU and one on BC) and a total of 49 fouls (BC-20, WVU-29).
Boston College will next play Brown University on Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. at the Newton Campus Fields.
