CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Krys Kolanos scored three goals and added two assists to lead Boston College to a 7-1 exhibition victory over Queen?s (Ontario) University before a crowd of 2,136 at Kelley Rink.
Kolanos opened the scoring at 10:17 of the first period, putting home a pass from Bobby Allen. Kolanos tallied twice more -- with goals in both the second and third periods ? to earn the game?s top star accolade.
Boston College led 1-0 after one period, and extended its lead to 3-0 after two periods. Senior Kevin Caulfield?s power-play goal at 6:58 of the middle period doubled the Eagles? advantage, and Kolanos netted his second tally at 17:34.
The Eagles tallied four goals in the third period with Kolanos, sophomore Jeff Giuliano, junior Mike Lephart and freshman Paul Kelly all lighting the lamp.
Boston College head coach Jerry York used all three goaltenders. Junior Scott Clemmensen registered five first-period saves. Freshmen Tim Kelleher (Belmont, Mass.) and Tom Egan (Rye, N.Y.) played the second and third periods respectively. Kelleher recorded seven saves, while Egan made three stops.
"This is what we needed," York said. "To get some outside competition and get used to the flow of the game. We learned a lot from this game: game management, line shifts, we need that type of situation. We need a game to get ready."
Boston College will open its regular season on Friday, Oct. 15 against Bowling Green. Game time is 7 p.m. in Kelley Rink.
