Hockey Rolls Past Bowling Green

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior forward Jeff Farkas tallied one goal and two assists to lead top-ranked Boston College to a 5-2 season-opening, non-league victory over Bowling Green before a crowd of 5,411 at Kelley Rink.
With the game tied at 1-1 after one period, the host Eagles scored the first two goals of the second period to take a 3-1 advantage. Freshman forward Krys Kolanos netted his first collegiate goal at 3:36 of the period, and senior forward Kevin Caulfield scored the decisive goal on the power play at 7:47.
Bowling Green junior forward Chris Bonvie cut the BC lead in half at 9:14 of the middle period, scoring while his team enjoyed a two-man advantage.
In the third period, BC scored two goals in less than 50 seconds to regain control. Junior forward Mike Lephart scored at 5:58, with Farkas assisting. Farkas finished the scoring 42 seconds later.
BC junior Scott Clemmensen earned his 51st collegiate win, making 17 saves. Bowling Green freshman Tyler Masters made 41 stops.
Boston College returns to action on Tuesday, October 19 against Merrimack at Kelley Rink. Game time is 7 p.m.
Notes: Jeff Farkas? three points moved him ahead of Eagle coach Jerry York into a tie for 23rd place on the Boston College all-time scoring list. Farkas now has 135 career points, one more than his coach.
