PITTSBURGH - Freshman Casey Schmidt's goal 34 minutes into the match proved to be the difference as Boston College blanked homestanding Pittsburgh 1-0 Sunday.
Schmidt took a deflection of his own shot and put it past Panthers goalkeeper Justin Gaul to lift the Eagles. Boston College held a 20-7 shot advantage for the contest. Junior goaltender Chris Hamblin registered his fourth blanking of the year. Now 6-8-2 overall and 2-8-0 in the BIG EAST, the Eagles will close the regular season on Nov.2 at Rutgers, in a game originally scheduled for Sept. 17.
