STEPHEN ROBERT HEINZE; born January 30, 1970...shoots right...was selected to play in the 1990 U.S. Olympic Festival and for Team U.S.A. at the Goodwill Games in Seattle.
NOTES
Signed a multiyear contract with the Boston Bruins on March 6, 1992...played on the 1992 U.S. Olympic hockey team...had a 12 year NHL career (1992-2004) with the Bruins, Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres, and Los Angeles Kings...appeared in 694 NHL games registering 178 goals and 158 assists.
AS A JUNIOR (1990-91)
Played in 35 games registering 21 goals and 26 assists for 47 points...was third on the team in points...had eight power play goals - second on the team, two shorthanded goals - also second on the team, and five game winning goals... had four points twice, in a win at Michigan State on 11/17/90 and in a home win against Maine on 12/15/90...scored two goals in five games...had multiple points in 14 games.
AS A SOPHOMORE (1989-90)
One of three BC players selected to the all-America, all-New England and all-HOCKEY EAST First Team after finishing second in the league scoring race to linemate David Emma with 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in 19 games...was also second in the overall team scoring race behind Emma with 27-36-63 in 40 games...was one of three players to reach the 100 career point mark last season...scored at least one point in 20 of the 40 games in which he played and had scoring streaks of nine and ten games...was second on the team with four game-winning goals and third on the team with six powerplay goals...tied for the team lead with three short-handed goals...had three hat tricks on the season and 17 multiple point games...had four four-point games and four three-point games on the year...earned HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week honors on 1/7/90 after scoring give points in consecutive victories over Boston University and Providence...tallied his first hat trick of the season and added an assist in the 6-5 win over Providence, including a shorthanded goal which proved to be the game-winner...followed that game up with a game-winning goal and three assist performance in BC's 7-4 victory at Northeastern on 1/9/90...notched additional hat tricks in wins over New Hampshire on 1/20/90 and Merrimack on 2/2/90...had a four-point game (one goal, three assists) in the Beanpot consolation game victory over Northeastern and a four-assist outing in a 9-5 victory over New Hampshire on 12/5/89...had 10 points (4-6-10) in four games against New Hampshire last season.
AS A FRESHMAN (1988-89)
Appeared in 36 games, scored 26 goals and added 23 assists for 49 points...fell one goal shy of tying Richie Smith's school record of 27 goals by a varsity freshman...Smith established the mark during the 1972-73 season...was second on the team in goals scored, third in total points and fourth in the team assist category...finished sixth in the HOCKEY EAST scoring race with 20 goals and 15 assists for 35 points in 25 games... was the league's top scoring freshman and finished second in HOCKEY EAST's overall goal scoring race...earned HOCKEY EAST All-Rookie Team honors and was selected Rookie of the Week on two different occasions...also earned HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week honors after posting the first of two five-point games during the season...earned the honor by scoring four goals and adding one assist in BC's 8-5 victory over Northeastern at Conte Forum on 12/5/88...scored Boston College's first-ever goal in Conte Forum in the Eagles' 6-3 loss to Boston University on 11/1/88...the goal also marked his first career point at Boston College...had two goals and three assists in the Eagles' 8-3 victory over Boston University at the Conte Forum on 1/13/89...followed that contest up with a two goal, one assist effort in BC's 4-4 tie with Minnesota 1/20/89...scored a point in 26 of the 36 games in which he played last season, including15 multiple-point contests...had a 14-game point scoring streak in which he totaled 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points...scored three power play goals, two shorthanded goals and two game-winners during that stretch...had a nine-game goal scoring streak from 2/17-3/18 during which he tallied 12 goals and five assists for 17 points...led the team with four shorthanded goals, was second with four game-winning goals and sixth with four power play tallies...scored a pair of goals, including one shorthanded marker in BC's6-3 victory over Maine on 2/17/89...notched a shorthanded goal and added an assist in BC's 3-1 victory at Boston University on 2/28/89...the victory marked Eagles' head coach Len Ceglarski's 600th career victory...scored the game winning goal in BC's come-from-behind 6-5 double overtime victory over Providence in the semifinals of the HOCKEY EAST Tournament on 3/10/89...earned HOCKEY EAST All-Tournament accolades after scoring two goals and two assists in the two games...also tallied the game-winner in the Eagles' 8-5 first round NCAA victory over Bowling Green on 3/17/89 at the Conte Forum...missed four games in late December while participating in the World Junior Championships in Anchorage, Alaska as a member of the U.S. Junior National Team...was tied for the team lead with four points on two goals and two assists as Team South earned a silver medal at the 1989 U.S. Olympic Festival in Oklahoma City in July of 1989.

Played at North Andover High School as a sophomore under coach Jim Logue before attending Lawrence Academy for two years...tallied 30 goals and 25 assists for 55 points in 21 games as Lawrence's senior captain under coach Charlie Corey...earned Cape Ann League and Boston Globe all-star accolades as a sophomore at North Andover and Keller Division Independent School League honors at Lawrence for two seasons...was also selected to the U.S. National Junior Team in August prior to attending BC after starring in a three-game series against the Soviet Union at Lake Placid...captained the Select 17 Team...in addition to hockey, Stephen starred as a schoolboy soccer forward and in track as a hurdler and discus thrower.

Was drafted in the third round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins...is following in the collegiate hockey footsteps of his older brothers Peter, a former University of Lowell defenseman, and Andy, who captained Merrimack College last season...his father, Norman, played baseball at Tufts University...a general management major in the School of Management, Stephen is the youngest of Martha and Norman Heinze's three sons.
