Julie Heyde is entering her 10th season as a member of the Boston College women’s cross country and track & field coaching staff.
A former student-athlete at The Heights, Heyde returned to BC after four years at NC State, first coaching with the swimming & diving program before shifting to the men's and women's track and field and cross country teams, serving as the Director of Operations.
After her stint in Raleigh, the BC alum returned to the Eagles in the fall of 2012, working closely with the sprint, middle-distance, hurdle, jump, throw, and multi-event areas, as well as cross country.
Over the last decade, Heyde has coached and mentored five All-Americans - most recently, Katherine Mitchell during the 2022 outdoor season in the 800m at the NCAA Championship. During her tenure, two Eagles have won ACC Championships on the track. In total, Heyde has coached over 40 individual or team performances in the NCAA Championships and three ECAC Champions.
Under Heyde’s coaching, the BC record books have been re-written. Athletes have set seven individual and five relay records, while posting 32 top-five all-time performers in BC track & field history.
Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Heyde coached many track and field athletes in various events at the high school level. She was the assistant coach for boys and girls indoor and outdoor track and field programs at Natick H.S. from 2004 to 2008. In addition to track and field, Heyde was also the head coach of the Brookline H.S. girls swimming and diving team in 2006 and 2007, and was also an assistant coach at Wayland H.S.
Heyde graduated from Boston College in 2004 with a degree in english and philosophy. A successful four-year letterwinner in track and field at the Heights from 2000-04, Heyde still ranks on the top 10 all-time performers list for the Eagles in the pentathlon and heptathlon events.
She earned her master’s degree in higher education administration from NC State in 2010, while working on the coaching staffs for swimming & diving, track & field and cross country, as well as the Wolfpack NCAA compliance office.
A product of Natick, Mass., Heyde and her husband Stephen - a former letterwinner in cross country and track at Penn State - and have two children - Abigail and Ryan.
