Rugg enters his second season on the staff of head coach Bob Thompson in 2021. Rugg attended Boston College, playing striker for four years and co-captaining the team in his senior season.
In 2013, Rugg was chosen by the LA Galaxy with the 19th overall draft pick in the MLS draft and spent three seasons with the club. Rugg's time with the Galaxy included a 2014 MLS Cup Championship. Rugg credits his time at Galaxy with exposing him to the highest levels of organized sport and elite training. Following his time in LA, he spent 18 months playing with both Eintracht Trier and FK Pirmasens in Germany before returning to the United States and switching his focus to coaching.
Born and raised in Boston, Rugg attended The Rivers School where he earned All-American accolades and was named the Gatorade Massachusetts Boy’s Soccer Player of the Year for 2008-09.
Rugg is head of strength and conditioning with Central Coast United S.C. and has spent two years coaching the 2007 boys and 2009 boys age groups. Away from soccer, Rugg is an artist with a focus in oil portrait painting. He was a first-place award winner at the Independent School Arts League (SISAL) show as well as a Boston Globe Gold Key Award.
