Matthew Smith
- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant Coach
This is Smith’s first coaching position in the NCAA. Before joining the Eagles, Smith was serving in the United States Army as a tank, then mortar platoon-leader in the 3rd Infantry Division; and subsequently as a General’s Aide-de-Camp at Fort Benning Georgia.
Smith brings a different perspective to the Eagles golf teams, specializing in team-building, mental toughness and resiliency, fitness, and discipline. He has experience on the course, range, and in the gym with players at PGA events including The Memorial, and the 2017 U.S. Open; while stationed in Georgia he also supported and trained with a competitor in the 2017 Master’s Tournament during his preparations.
Smith is a JD candidate at Boston College Law School. Prior to attending BC, he graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in law and legal studies from The Citadel.
Upon graduating from BC Law, Smith will continue his service as an attorney in the United States Army JAG Corps. After his service career, he hopes to pursue a coaching position in the NCAA.
