Abbey Wheeler enters her first season as a member of the Boston College men's and women's cross country and track & field coaching staff.
Wheeler comes to BC after a stellar collegiate distance running career at Providence. She was a four-time All-American and three-time Big East champion in her career with the Friars. At the 2020 Big East indoor championship, Wheeler won both the 3,000m and 5,000m titles, earning the conference's Co-Most Outstanding Track Performer award. She is also a two-time individual winner of the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown at Franklin Park.
A two-year team captain, Wheeler finished her collegiate career earning All-American honors in the 10,000m at the 2021 NCAA Championship. She also earned All-American honors in the outdoor 5,000m twice - in 2018 and 2019 - and once in the indoor 5,000m. in 2021. She has run personal best times of 15:32.81 outdoors at 5,000m, 32:53.50 for 10,000m, and 9:08.17 indoors at 3,000m.
She was named the USTFCCCA Northeast Region Women’s Athlete of the Year on three occasions - 2020 and 2021 indoors; 2021 outdoors. Originally from Elmira, N.Y., Wheeler earned degrees in mathematics and applied physics in 2021 from Providence and named the school’s Female Athlete of the Year. She now runs professionally for BAA.
