Luke Simons enters his first season with the Boston College men’s basketball program, serving as the team’s director of operations. Simons spent the previous two seasons in a similar role with head coach Earl Grant at the College of Charleston.
“Luke is someone who is very organized and very loyal,” said Grant. “He has unbelievable experience with running the minute-to-minute operations of a program. He will be a great asset for our players - he will impact our program through strong relationships and communication.”
From 2016-19, Simons served as the director of scouting at Vanderbilt University, helping head coach Bryce Drew and the Commodores earn an at-large NCAA Tournament berth in 2017. He arrived in Nashville after spending the 2015-16 as a member of Drew’s staff at Valparaiso. That season, Simons helped the Crusaders set a new single-season win mark (30) en route to capturing the Horizon League regular season championship. Valpo advanced to the 2016 NIT, finishing as runners-up.
Simons spent nearly a decade working with Athletes in Action as an international team director and coach as well as a regional coordinator. During his time with AIA, he helped assemble and direct multiple international competitive tours throughout Europe and Asia. Simons also created the Captains Academy, an AIA leadership initiative to serve influencers in basketball.
Outside of AIA, Simons served as Director of Operations for Team USA at the last three World University Games and is co-founder of the International Basketball Coaches Experience, which is held annually at the NCAA Final Four.
His coaching experience also includes working as an Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development for the Mongolian National Team from 2012-15, helping guide the team to the final round of the 2015 Asian Games. Simons also served as interim head coach at Black Hawk College in Moline, Ill., and five years as an Assistant Coach at West Lafayette High School in West Lafayette, Ind.
A native of Shelbyville, Ind., he is a graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in movement and sports science.
