Rob Chudzinski moved into an on-field coaching role with Boston College in the spring of 2023 after serving as special assistant to the head coach for Jeff Hafley’s first three seasons. Chudzinski moved into the role of associate head coach for offense and offensive development.
Chudzinski is tasked with implementing the scheme and developing players and staff in the team’s offensive vision and philosophy. He returns to the coaching ranks with 12 years of experience in the college game, including 2020-22 at BC, plus 14 years of NFL experience; most notably as head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2013.
Chudzinski guided the Browns for one season; going 4-12 in 2013. He gained offensive coordinator experience at the professional level in his second of three stints in Cleveland during the 2007 and 2008 seasons as well as two years with the Carolina Panthers (2011-12) and three years with the Indianapolis Colts (2015-17). Chudzinski was initially hired by the Colts in 2014 as their associate head coach following the 2013 season in Cleveland. His first offensive coordinator opportunity came at his alma mater, the University of Miami, from 2001-03; overseeing the Hurricanes’ BCS National Championship offense.
Chudzinski’s NFL offenses ranked in the top-10 three times in total yards with Cleveland (2007, 8th), Carolina (2011, 7th) and Indianapolis (2016, 10th). Those same offenses were top 10 in points; Cleveland (8th), Carolina (5th), Indianapolis (8th).
A tight end in his playing days, Chudzinski played collegiately at the University of Miami, where he was a three-year starter. He was a part of two National Championship teams in 1987 and 1989. Chudzinski got his coach in starting at his alma mater as a graduate assistant from 1994-95. He then moved to tight ends coach from 1996-00 before being elevated to offensive coordinator from 2001-03.
In his first season running the offense in 2001, Chudzinski played a large part in the Hurricanes’ National Championship. He coached three All-America tight ends and guided a 2001 offense that featured running backs CLinton Portis and Frank Gore as well as wide receiver Andre Johnson and tight end Jeremy Shockey with quarterback Ken Dorsey under center.
Chudzinski and his wife Sheila have three sons; Kaelan, Rian and Declan as well as one daughter; Margaret.
