A veteran of the coaching industry who has over 30 years of experience in both the NFL and collegiate ranks, McNulty heads to Chestnut Hill after serving as Notre Dame's tight ends coach since 2020.
McNulty is set to begin his 17th season in the collegiate ranks in 2022 and has mentored seven All-Americans or freshman All-Americans during his career. He has also coached in the NFL for 15 seasons, including on the staff of former BC head coach Tom Coughlin in Jacksonville.
Earlier in his coaching career, he served two stints at Rutgers (2004-08, 2018), including three seasons as offensive coordinator. McNulty was Rutgers' play-caller in 2006 as the Scarlet Knights finished 11-2 overall and ended the season ranked 12th nationally.
He then directed one of the most prolific offenses in NCAA history in 2007, as the Scarlet Knights became the first team in FBS history with a 3,000-yard passer (Mike Teel), 2,000-yard rusher (Ray Rice) and a pair of 1,000-yard receivers (Kenny Britt and Tiquan Underwood). That season, the Scarlet Knights set school records for scoring, first downs and total offense. In addition, Britt and Underwood were the first teammates in BIG EAST history with 1,000 receiving yards in the same season.
McNulty's NFL experience includes serving as the tight ends coach for the Chargers for two years. He also coached the wide receivers for the Cardinals, including All-Pro Larry Fitzgerald.
McNulty played safety at Penn State from 1988-90, where he was a member of two Nittany Lion bowl teams.
He and his wife Kim have four daughters: Abigail, Allison, Megan and Kaitlyn.
