2V8, V4 Claim First-Place Finishes at Gummy Bear Bowl

BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston College rowing team opened their spring season with two first-place finishes at the Gummy Bear Bowl on Saturday morning.
"Good to get some racing under our belt," said head coach Grace Hollowell. "The team showed good depth and good overall base pace, with two wins it is good starting point for the spring. We are looking forward to getting back to work this week with a focus on the start and sprint, there is a lot more racing on the horizon!"

It was a cool morning with a high of 50F and low of 37F on Saturday with some clouds. Winds were blowing NW 10-21 mph.

The Eagles Second Varsity 8+ recorded a first place finish over BU's Second Varsity 8+ Lightweights and the fastest mark of the day. Coxed by Lucy Fortner the boat featured Erin Smith, Kate Weitz, Lauren Schramm, Sylvia Freidenrich, Quinn Baker, Jennie Sherwood, Angela Devine and Olivia Hankey. The crew recorded a time of 7:01.0, three seconds ahead of the Terriers.

The Eagles First Varsity 4+ added another first place finish, closing the race ahead of BU's First Varsity 4+. Coxed by Cassidy Ferron with rowers Ella Davis, Alice Frascella, Beatrice Maxwell and Eva Croney-Ferraiuoli, the crew finished the course in a time of 7:57.4.

BC's First Varsity 8+ recorded a narrow second place finish. coxed by Caroline Jennings with rowers Lauren Craven, Lucy Barratt, Lauren Bauer, Molly Devine, Reagan Rock, Callaghan Nickerson, Sofia Martin and Ella Ryan, finished the course just two seconds behind Boston University's First Varsity 8+. The Eagles recorded a time of 7:09.7.

The Third Varsity 8+, coxed by Madelyn Stevens with rowers Vanessa Ksiazek, Jo McTamney, Chloe Wilkinson, Kirsten Thorn, Madeleine Newall, Hannah Cochener, Melinda Aznar Klein and Leighton Davis, finished the course in 7:13.1, recording a third place finish behind BC's Second Varsity 8+ and the BU Lightweights Second Varsity team.

The Second Varsity 4+, coxed by Tariya Singh, Molly Smith, Amelia Sanger, Emma Lawson and Amirah Easter recorded a third place finish with a time of 8:16.5. The Third Varsity 4+, coxed by Helen Russell with rowers Molly O'Connell, Josie Hohenrieder, Molly Welch and Sofia Tamayo, recorded a time of 8:51.7.
