RALEIGH, N.C. - Boston College Baseball (11-7, 3-2 ACC) defeated NC State (15-4, 1-1 ACC) on Saturday afternoon, 12-5.Â
Tyler Mudd started for the Eagles and went three innings while giving up three earned runs and striking out one. He induced his other eight outs all through fly outs. Kyle Kipp came in relief and threw three innings while giving up two earned runs. John Kwiatkowski and Gavin Soares closed the game out, combining to allow two hits and two strikeouts without giving up a run.Â
Nick Wang got Boston College on the board as he hit his ninth home run of the season to put the Eagles up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.Â
The Wolfpack took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second with three runs. The first two runs came on sacrifice flies after Mudd loaded up the bases for NC State. The final run came on a single to right field that brought in a runner from second, putting the Wolfpack ahead 3-1.Â
In the fourth, Boston College put up three runs to take a 4-3 lead into the fifth inning. Jace Roosien, for the second straight game, came on as a pinch hitter and hit a single to right field that scored two runs, giving Roosien three home runs for the series. Colin Larson then knocked another single to right field to score Roosien and give the Eagles the lead.Â
The game remained the same through the fifth and sixth innings until NC State retook the lead 5-4. The Wolfpack tied the game on a solo shot to right field. They then went ahead on a single to left field.Â
The eighth inning proved to be decisive for Boston College as they put up eight runs to take over the game. The Eagles tied the game when Esteban Garcia's infield single was thrown away by NC State, allowing Ty Mainolfi to score from third. During the very next at-bat, Wang scored on a passed ball to make it 6-5.
Colin Larson then launched a three-run triple to center field to make it 9-5. After the Larson triple, the Eagles put runners on second and third for Mainolfi after they batted around. Mainolfi then launched his first home run at Boston College to deep center field, which scored Larson and Julio Solier to make it 12-5.Â
Soares then came in for the bottom of the eighth to close out the game.
