Cloutier posts 18-save shutout; Hagens finishes with three points
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 17/16 Boston College men's hockey team blanked Maine, 5-0, on Friday evening at Kelley Rink in the Hockey East Quarterfinals. James Hagens led all scorers with three points on two goals and one assist. Oskar Jellvik, Dean Letourneau, and Teddy Stiga each found the back of the net. Louka Cloutier made 18 stops to earn the shutout.
Boston College improves to 20-14-1 overall, while Maine dropped to 18-14-3.
The Eagles started the scoring early as they tallied two goals just 39 seconds apart inside the opening six minutes of the contest. The first goal of the night came after Stiga followed up on a loose puck that Luka Radivojevic dumped in from the BC defensive zone and took a favorable bounce off the boards for Stiga to fire it home.
Just seconds later, J. Hagens doubled the lead with his 22nd goal of the season. His initial shot was blocked by a Maine defenseman, but the puck fell directly for the sophomore to tuck into the top corner of the net to put BC up by two.
Boston College added its third goal of the night early in the final period after forcing a Maine turnover in their own defensive zone. A forecheck from Ryan Conmy allowed him to pick up the puck behind the Maine goal, before passing it back towards the net front to Jellvik for a one-timer to the top shelf.
The Eagles added two empty net goals from Letourneau and J.Hagens to finish the game with a 5-0 victory.
Cloutier kept the door shut all night with several key stops to keep Maine off the board, including nine saves in the second period.
