Letourneau scored twice on the power play
BOSTON – The No. 17 Boston College men's hockey team fell to the No. 13/14 UConn Huskies 4-3 in overtime on Friday evening at TD Garden in the Hockey East semifinals. Dean Letourneau scored twice on the power play, while Ryan Conmy also added a goal. Multiple players recorded assists, including two from James Hagens. Louka Cloutier made 28 saves for the Eagles.
Boston College ends the season at 20-15-1 overall, while UConn moves to 20-11-5.
Cloutier set the tone early on, making back-to-back stops to keep the score level. Both teams created chances in the first 20 minutes of play, earning power-play opportunities, but the contest remained scoreless after the first period.
Boston College struck first immediately after the second period began with a power play goal. The Eagles worked the puck in the offensive zone, as Gasseau connected with Letourneau before firing it home with a back-post shot.
UConn responded less than a minute later with a shot from the right board, sneaking its way through to tie the contest.
Letourneau added his second power-play goal of the contest 5:09 into the second period. Gustafsson's pass ricocheted off Hagens' blade, finding the stick of Letourneau, and flicking it over the UConn goalie's pad to retake the lead. The Huskies found their second equalizer of the night with a point blank shot in front of the net. That score would hold heading into the final intermission.
UConn grabbed its first lead of the night with 7:31 remaining in the game, but the Eagles responded with a slapshot from Ryan Conmy to make it 3-3 heading into the final minutes of the period. Both teams looked for the go-ahead goal, but neither could find it, sending the game to overtime.
The Huskies would find the game-winner a minute and a half into extra time off a deflection.
