2026 Spring Practice Notebook #1

After two months of winter conditioning, the Eagles returned to the practice field Tuesday morning
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Spring practice for the 2026 Boston College Football program is officially under way, as the Eagles took the field for the first of 15 practice sessions Tuesday morning inside Fish Field House. As transfer portal activity, early freshmen enrollees and daily lifting sessions consumed much of the offseason, Gregory P. Barber '69 and Family Head Coach Bill O'Brien held a two-hour practice with his new look Eagles' squad.Â
After practice, Coach O'Brien and two newcomers met with the media, quarterback Mason McKenzie and linebacker Anthony Palano. While the excitement of returning to the practice field was palpable, O'Brien knows there's a long way to go before the season opener Labor Day Weekend at Cincinnati on September 5.Â
"Take advantage of practice. Take advantage of it. One drill at a time, one repetition at a time. That's been my motto with these guys, and they've done a good job of believing in that."Â
In his first spring practice in a Boston College uniform, Mason McKenzie recognized the importance of being in the moment.Â
"Be where your feet are. We're taking it one day at a time. We can't worry about going to Cincinnati. We're worried about today, watching the film, and coming out on Thursday for another spring practice."Â
Fellow transfer portal acquisition Anthony Palano hasn't taken the bonds he's made in a short amount of time for granted.Â
"Being able to come together with a collective of guys that all have the same goals, and are bought in to getting better every day, that's what makes us click so easily."Â
The Eagles return to the practice field on Thursday before a third and final week one practice on Saturday. Practices are closed to the public.
