Men's Tennis Drop to Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Boston College men's tennis team (4-4, 0-2 ACC) fell 7-0 to Virginia Tech (4-6, 1-1 ACC) Sunday morning in Blacksburg.

The Hokies secured the early momentum by claiming the doubles point. After Virginia Tech opened with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles, the Eagles responded at the No. 2 position as Aidan Pack and Matthew Overvelde battled to a 7-6 (7-3) tiebreak win. The doubles point came down to the top court, where Liam O'Leary and Matvey Greschner fell 7-6 (7-1) tiebreak to give the Hokies a 1-0 lead.

In singles play, Virginia Tech captured all six matches. The Eagles competed in several tightly contested matches throughout the lineup. At No. 1 singles, Mai Gao pushed Ilyas Fahim to a first-set tiebreak before falling 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. Luke Levanat forced a deciding match tiebreak at No. 4 singles, dropping a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 10-5 decision. Matthew Overvelde also battled in a competitive first set at No. 3 before falling 7-5, 6-5.
