Eagles move to 2-6 in ACC; Four Eagles log double-digit performances
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College battled closely with No. 17 Virginia at home Saturday afternoon, but fell 73-66. Donald Hand Jr. led all scorers with 20 points and six rebounds, and was one of four Eagles to score in double figures.

- BC opened the scoring with a floater from Fred Payne. They would cap off the opening minutes with a Payne and-one three to make it 10-4
- Virginia would cut the deficit to one possession right after, as both sides traded buckets throughout the middle of the first half.
- Boden Kapke responded with a 9-0 own scoring run of his own to push the lead back to six points with 8:45 remaining
- Jayden Hastings used a tough layup to give the Eagles a 30-23 lead, their largest of the afternoon, before the Cavaliers brought it back to a one-score game
- BC held a 32-27 lead going into halftime
- BC held a slight edge early in the second half before taking its first lead of the game with a pair of free throws, making it 42-40
- Virginia scored six straight to grab its largest lead of the game with 13:30 remaining. The Eagles answered with a 10-0 run to reclaim the lead after Hastings knocked down an and-one layup and the shot from the charity stripe
- From 11:01, the contest would grow no larger than two possessions, as BC and Virginia traded free throws and jump shots. The visitors broke the lock with 3:22 left, using a reverse layup to grab a 68-62 edge
- The Eagles clawed to level the score, but the Cavaliers closed the game with free throws.
- Virginia earned a 73-66 decision
- Four Eagles finished in double-digit figures, led by Donald Hand Jr.'s 20 points. He also added a team-high four assists
- Aidan Shaw and Jayden Hastings both logged two blocks, with Hastings extending his consecutive games with a block to seven
- Boston College moves to 2-6 in ACC play and 9-12 in the regular season
- The Eagles' all-time series record against Virginia shifts to 9-23

- Boston College travels to Durham, N.C., to take on No. 4/4 Duke on Tuesday, Feb. 3
- Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be available on The ACC Network and on WEEI 850.
- Tuesday's meeting will be the 34th overall meeting between the Eagles and Blue Devils. Duke holds a 30-3 series lead.
- BC is 0-14 when playing Duke on the road. Its most recent win came on Dec. 9, 2017, and was the last time the Eagles beat a team ranked No. 1 in the nation.
