
Eagles Grab A Pair of Top Three Finishes Over Weekend

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College attacked a busy weekend by racing in four regattas, including hosting the Eagle Invite. The team concluded with a second-place finish in the Hood Trophy, second place in the Eagle Invite, fourth place in the NEISA Match Race Conference Championships, and sixth place in the Sherman Hoyt Trophy.
The weekend began with the Eagle Invite, where the team entered two boats to compete. Eagles One, led by skippers James O'Gwen (A), Roger Casellas (B), and Ryan McGauley (C), and crews Emily Marlas (A), Matthew Commons (B), and Abbie Catalano (C), guided Boston College to a team-best second-place with 221 points. Eagles Two with skippers Ian Hopkins Guerra (A), Kate Joslin (B), and Kennedy Laureigh (C), and crews Kylie Craig (A), Christian Yanoti (B), and Paige Roby (C) finished fifth place with 335 points.
At the Hoyt Trophy, the Eagles finished in second place with 35 total points. The A Division boat, skippered by Alex Lech and crewed by Ainsley West, finished seventh with 27 points, while the B Division, with skipper Tanner Krygsveld and crew member Sydney Lombard, finished at the top with 8 points.
Down in Connecticut, the Eagles finished fourth in the NEISA Match Race Conference Championships, led by driver Peter Busch and crews Peter Joslin, Tor Svendsen, and Madeline Torrey. On the first day of racing, Boston College logged a round robin record of 5-2 to earn the #3 seed and set a matchup with the hosts, Coast Guard, in the quarterfinals. The Eagles defeated the Bears 2-1 before falling to Harvard in the semifinals 2-0. In the third-place race, Roger Williams edged Boston College 2-1.
The final race of the weekend for the Eagles was the Sherman Hoyt Trophy, hosted by Brown. A Division, skippered by Jack Redmond and crewed by Lanie Ferrarone, scored 44 points to finish in fourth place. In B Division, skipper Caroline Sibilly and crew Brendan Peary finished in ninth place with 59 points, earning a combined score of 103 points.
Next week, Boston College races in four regattas, starting with the Smith Trophy and BU Invite on Saturday, Sept. 20, on the Charles River.
