Volleyball Win 11th Straight Against Stonehill

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College Eagles (10-0, 0-0 ACC) earned their 11th victory of the season against Stonehill (1-11, 0-0 NEC) Friday night, 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 29-27, in their second victory of the Eagle Classic. This win for the Eagles sets a new program record with an 11-match win streak.
Sequoia Layne led the Eagles with a career-high 16 kills. Sam Hoppes was close behind recording 11 kills, adding five blocks. Freshman Milly Wolf recorded a new season-high nine assists, and Ali Natt recorded three service aces, also a new high. Layne also led the team in points, contributing 17 to the offensive effort. Senior Grace Milliken led the team in blocks with seven.
The Eagles took the lead early with a six point lead, forcing Stonehill to call a timeout, down 12-6. Starting with a kill from Sam Hoppes, a 14-9 BC run with kills from Hoppes (3), Layne (3), Ehrlich, Herrington and Milliken secured the set for the Eagles, 25-15.
In a tighter contested second set, the Eagles and the Skyhawks tied it up at 12, but a 4-0 run with a kill and solo block from Marjanovic, and an ace from Rach led the teams to a media timeout. Back-to-back kills from Layne pushed the Eagles to a 20-16 lead, forcing a Skyhawk timeout. Two kills from Layne and a block from Ehrlich and Layne propelled BC to a 25-17 second set victory.
Opening the third set with a 4-0 run, the Eagles took the lead, 6-3, forcing an early Stonehill timeout. The Eagles and Skyhawks tied it up seven different times, going back and forth. Once more the score was tied at 20-20, but four Stonehill kills secured the third set victory for the Skyhawks.
Despite being tied 7-7, the Eagles turned up the heat offensively once again to hold a 17-13 lead at the Stonehill timeout. The set tied seven other times before a pair of kills by Rach and one from Herrington sealed the deal for the Eagles. BC took the fourth set 29-27.
