Volleyball Falls 3-0 to No.8 SMU

DALLAS, TX – The Boston College volleyball team (16-13, 5-12 ACC) fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-8) to No.8 SMU (22-5, 14-3 ACC) Friday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.
Freshman Bella Ehrlich led the Eagles with five kills and five block assists. Audrey Ross posted five kills and three blocks, including one solo. Anna Herrington recorded four kills and one block. Lucy Mott led the offensive front with 12 assists.
The Mustangs held a five-point advantage at the media timeout, the Eagles trailing 15-10. The Mustangs came out of the media to go on a 4-1 run, taking a 19-11 lead, forcing a BC timeout. Kills from Ross and Herrington accompanied by blocks from Ehrlich, Herrington and Roach assisted the offensive front, but it wasn't enough to catch SMU. The Mustangs took the first set 25-17.
The Eagles came out hot in the second set opening up scoring with a kill from Ross. Blocks from Ehrlich (2), Hoppes and Ross and a kill from Herrington put the Eagles ahead, 4-3. The Mustang offense fired back, taking the lead back, 11-7. A 3-0 BC run featuring kills from Marjanovic and Roach and an ace from Marjanovic put the Eagles within one, trailing 11-10. The Mustangs came back, holding a 15-11 advantage at the media timeout. A 3-0 run from the Mustangs lengthened their lead to seven, the Eagles trailing 18-11. A 3-0 run from the Eagles featuring kills from Ehrlich, Marjanovic, and blocks from Ehrlich and Hoppes put the Eagles within five, trailing 20-15. A final 5-1 SMU run secured the second set for the Mustangs, 25-16.
The Mustangs came out in the third set with a .684 hitting percentage, taking a 9-2 lead. Maintaining their lead, the Mustangs extended the gap to 11, leading 16-5 to force a BC timeout. Kills from Milliken and Herrington assisted the offensive charge, but the Mustangs took the third set 25-8.
