Eagles Defeat Harvard To Open Eagle Classic

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College Eagles (10-0, 0-0 ACC) won their 10th match of the season against Harvard (0-6, 0-0 Ivy), 22-25, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-16 to begin the Eagle Classic.

Audrey Ross led the Eagles with a season-high 20 kills also tallying four blocks and contributing 22 points. Freshman Bella Ehrlich led the defensive effort posting seven blocks including one solo block, she added 10 points. Sam Hoppes recorded nine kills, two blocks and ten points. Anna Herrington and Cornelia Roach both tallied six kills and four blocks, recording eight points each.

The Crimson got off to a hot start taking the lead early, but the Eagles didn't back down. With a 6-3 BC run the Eagles came within 3, forcing a Harvard timeout. The Eagles came within two points a couple of times, but two Harvard kills secured a first set victory for Harvard.Â

An early run for Harvard put them in the lead, and once again the Eagles pushed back. The remainder of the set was tightly contested as teams tied up at 10. With a 4-0 BC run featuring kills from Herrington and Ross, the Eagles took the lead. With kills from Ehrlich, Hoppes (2), Roach and Ross, the Eagles took the second set 25-17.

The Eagles carried over their momentum to the third set, starting strong with a 3-0 run. Forcing Harvard to call a timeout down 6-1, the Eagles offensive effort was in full effect. Remaining ahead the entire set, nine of the next 15 points came from kills from Ross (4), Hoppes (2) Herrington, and Roach. The Eagles took the third set 25-15.

Despite evening the score four times, the Eagles persisted offensively to hold a 15-12 lead at the media timeout. A 10-4 BC run led by a service ace from Lucy Mott featured kills from Hoppes, Rach and Ehrlich, bringing the Eagles to 25. BC took the fourth set 25-16.
