Eagles Set To Host Third Annual Red Bandanna Invitational
August 30, 2025 | Men's Golf
VERONA, N.Y. -- The Boston College men's golf team begins the 2025 fall season on Sunday, Aug. 31, at the third annual Red Bandanna Invitational. The two-day competition, composed of three rounds and 54 holes of golf, will be played on the Kaluhyat Course at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.
This year's event will be the third iteration of the men's tournament. Junior Markus Lam took second place in last year's attempt after falling in the third playoff hole at 18. Senior Jack Pogorelc was the other lone Eagle to earn a top ten finish, closing the two-day event tied for ninth with a total score of +4. As a team, Boston College finished first overall at 3-over par, beating the next closest opponent, North Dakota State, by 24 strokes.
The first and second rounds will be played in a continuous format on Sunday, Sept. 1, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. BC will be paired with South Dakota and Sacred Heart for the opening two rounds. Monday's final 18 holes of play will also go off in shotgun format at 8 a.m.
The Kaluhyat Course at Turning Stone Resort measures just over 7,100 yards, and was named the #1 Best Golf Course in New York in 2025 by Casino Player Magazine. The course is designed as a classic shot-maker layout that requires accuracy, distance off the tee, and a unique strategy to conquer the challenging surface and dramatic elevation changes.
The men's collegiate golf tournament was named the Red Bandanna Invitational in honor of Welles Crowther '99 - "The Man in the Red Bandanna." Crowther, who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, was an equities trader with Sandler O'Neill on the 104th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. A volunteer firefighter in Nyack, N.Y., Crowther spearheaded a rescue effort from the Sky Lobby on the 78th floor and is credited with saving more than a dozen lives. Survivors recalled being saved by a man wearing a Red Bandanna. Crowther had worn a Red Bandanna, given to him by his father, Jefferson, since he was a child growing up in Nyack, N.Y. He carried it wherever he went and, while a student-athlete at BC, he always wore one beneath his lacrosse uniform.
