News and Notes from Day 14 of Training Camp
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Saturday marks exactly two weeks until the Eagles take the field against Fordham on August 30 at 2:00 PM. With the calendar in mind, practice #14 on the schedule took place inside Alumni Stadium for the second controlled scrimmage of the summer.Â
On offense, there was no shortage of pass catchers making an impact, with Jaedn Skeete, Ty Lockwood and Lewis Bond particularly active. Head Coach Bill O'Brien understands just how important the totality of the unit is.
After practice, Head Coach Bill O'Brien met with the media, as well as defensive back K.P. Price.Â
"It's all about the people around you. It's not just about you. It's about the other ten guys. Are we blocking well? Are we running the right route? We'll keep improving and trying to get better every day," said O'Brien.Â
The second to last drive of the day highlighted the intensity both sides of the ball play with on a daily basis. Wide Receiver Lewis Bond ignited the drive with a sizable gain on a screen pass, setting up a big play over the middle of the field on the very next play.Â
The defense would not go away quietly, as Favor Bate broke up a pass in the end zone to save a touchdown. With the ball in the red zone, the offense was not to be denied, as Dylan Lonergan ultimately found tight end Lockwood to cap off an extended drive for both sides with seven points.Â
As the competition remained intense through the final whistle, defensive back K.P. Price recognized just how crucial scrimmages are in preparing for the season during Training Camp.
"It's a blessing to be out here. It's similar to gameday. We're getting a feel for the field, a feel for the team. We're feeling great. It's the closest we can do to a game, so these stadium practices are needed, for sure."
The Eagles close out the weekend with their sixth consecutive day of practice on Sunday before an off-day on Monday. Practices are closed to the public.Â
