
Eagles Suffer Heartbreaking Loss to Northwestern in Semifinals

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Boston College suffered a heartbreaking 12-11 loss to Northwestern on Friday evening in the national semifinals in Gillette Stadium.Â
The Eagles end the season at 19-3, while the Wildcats advance to face North Carolina on Sunday.Â
Emma LoPinto finished with two goals and three assists for five points, and Mckenna Davis scored three times with two helpers, equaling five points. Rachel Clark registered a hat trick. Shea Baker netted six ground balls, three caused turnovers and tied for the team lead with three draw controls. Morgan Smith tallied three caused turnovers, tying for the team lead on a defense that forced 14 of the Wildcats' 18 turnovers.Â
Shea Dolce registered her 12th double-digit save of the season with 11 saves, highlighted by five in the final quarter.Â
After facing a 4-1 deficit, Clark scored back-to-back goals to slice the gap to one score heading into the second, building momentum for the Eagles. A 4-1 run in the second period capped off by a Mallory Hasselbeck score that gave BC a 7-5 advantage. Northwestern found the back of the net with nine seconds left to bring the lead to one, 7-6 at the half.Â
It was all Eagles in the second, as the defense held Northwestern scoreless and held an 11-6 lead after a Davis goal. However, the Wildcats stormed back in the fourth, going on a 6-0 run to take a 12-11 lead with 5:26 left. BC had a chance with four seconds left, but the NW goalie stopped the game-tying shot.Â

- Davis broke the single-game school record with her first assist of the game and finished her career third all-time with 317 points.Â
- Clark extended her school record in goals to 106 and finished second all-time in a single season with 128 points.Â
- Clark (128 points), LoPinto (113 points), and Davis (105 points) are the fifth trio since 2016 in the country to post over 100 points.Â
- Dolce is one of two players (Megan McElvogue) in school history to finish a season with 200-plus saves.Â
