Tuesday Decision Goes to Huskies

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (17-19, 7-11 ACC) fell to the Connecticut Huskies (18-17, 5-4 Big East) on Tuesday evening at Harrington Athletics Village.

The Huskies struck first on a two-run home run in the opening frame, but Kyle Wolff responded in the second inning to tie the game. Patrick Roche and Josiah Ragsdale reached, and after a sacrifice bunt from Jack Toomey, Wolff brought both runners across on a two-run single to make it 2-2 after one.

The visitors retook a 3-2 lead in the second, but Adam Magpoc changed that in the home half. After a two-out double, Magpoc stole third and forced a throwing error from the catcher, allowing him to cross home and even the game at 3-3 after two.

After a five-spot from UConn in the third, the Eagles responded once again. Ragsdale led off the frame with a triple down the right-field line, and after Toomey reached, Kyle Wolff delivered his second RBI knock in three innings. Colin Larson singled, and Vince Cimini and Sam McNulty both logged sacrifice flies to make it an 8-6 game after three.

The Huskies struck for nine runs in the fourth to go up 17-6. Josiah Ragsdale drew one back, driving a solo home run to right-center, his third long ball of the season. Esteban Garcia added one on a pinch-hit RBI single to right field, but runs from the visitors in the next two frames made it 19-8 in the sixth.

Kyle Wolff continued his productive day in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to make it 19-9, his fourth RBI of the game. The Huskies held the Eagles at nine over the final two frames, bringing two more across in the process to win 21-9 in seven innings.

The Eagles will hit the road for a conference series at Wake Forest, starting this Thursday night.
