Rowing Finishes First Day at Sunshine State Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Boston College Rowing team completed their first of two days in Sarasota, Florida as they compete in the Sunshine State Invitational.
"Today all crews gained a lot of racing experience, from how to push yourself on your own in a time trial and how to then apply and adjust that to side by side racing," said head coach Grace Hollowell. "This regatta continues to get faster each year and it has been awesome for our crews to test their speed against a strong group of teams. We are looking forward to having all four crews apply what we've worked on today and close some tight margins tomorrow morning."
The Varsity 8+ got the Eagles started, coxed by Madelyn Stevens with rowers Lucy Barratt, Lauren Bauer, Rachelle Papineau, Lauren Meath, Jennie Sherwood, Leighton Smith, Leighton Davis and Grace Yi. Boston College finished the course in a time of 6:53.73. UNC Chapel Hill posted a winning time of 6:41.24.
The Second Varsity 8+, a team of coxswain Caroline Jennings, and rowers Lauren Schramm, Jill Reichenbach, Sierra Ross, Brooke Picazio, Lauren Craven, Jennie Sherwood, Erin Smith and Kirsten Thorn posted a time of, 7:09.77. Miami posted a winning time of 6:56.91.
The first Varsity 4+, coxed by Lucy Fortner with rowers Ruby Barnett, Amelia Sanger, Jo McTamney and Elizabeth Cobb, finished at 7:48.81. The victorious UCF posted a time of 7:27.67.
The second Varsity 4+, coxed by Kendra Schmidt with rowers Chloe Wilkinson, Claire Piacentini, Neave Anderson and Quinn Baker finished right behind with a time of 7:09.09. UCF posted another victory with 6:41.73.
