Six Eagles Drive in Runs as BC Defeats Sacred Heart 8-3

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (8-9, 2-4 ACC) defeated Sacred Heart (9-9, 4-2 MAAC) on Tuesday evening, winning 8-3 in the first of five straight home games for the Eagles.

Boston College opened the scoring in the second frame, with Beck Milner driving a ball to the left side, forcing an errant throw by the second baseman to bring two runners home. Vince Cimini added one in the third, picking up Kyle Wolff after Wolff roped a triple to the center field wall. Josiah Ragsdale added a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and Wolff made it 5-0 with an RBI single in the fifth, driving in his team-leading 17th RBI of the season.

Eric Schroeder started on the mound for BC and turned in three shutout innings, striking out two while surrendering zero hits. Gavin Soares followed suit, tossing two scoreless frames with two punchouts, no walks, and just one hit.

Sacred Heart got on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the sixth, and added two more in the seventh to make it a 5-3 game. Joey Ryan entered at pitcher with a two-run lead and did his job, working a scoreless eighth inning to maintain the 5-3 advantage. The Eagles added insurance in their half of the eighth, led off by an RBI single from Josiah Ragsdale, and immediately followed by a run-scoring knock from Patrick Roche. Jack Toomey added a sacrifice fly to make it 8-3, where Joey Ryan would hold it in the ninth, earning his team-leading third save of the season. Gavin Soares earned the win for the Eagles (1-0). Ragsdale, Wolff, and Sam McNulty all logged multi-hit games in the victory.

The Eagles will resume action tomorrow afternoon, hosting Northeastern at 3:00 p.m..
