Eagles’ annual Red Bandanna Game scheduled for Nov. 8 vs. SMU.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Athletics announced its 2025 BC football theme days on Thursday. The Eagles annual Red Bandanna Game, honoring alum and 9/11 hero Welles Crowther '99 will take place Nov. 8 against SMU.
The 2025 schedule opens week one at home against Fordham on Aug. 30 with Faculty & Staff Appreciation combined with Healthcare Heroes Day presented by Mass General Brigham. Boston College's annual Family Weekend falls during week five when the Eagles host California on Sept. 27 for their first home match-up against one of the ACC's two new West Coast schools.
A week after welcoming Clemson to the Heights, Boston College faces Connecticut during Homecoming on Oct. 18. Closely partnering with BC Student Affaits and the Alumni Association, Homecoming will be the culmination of a week-long celebration at the Heights, honoring the rich traditions and mission of BC.
The first of three consecutive home weeks starts with Notre Dame, making its first trip to Alumni Stadium for a game with fans since 2017, on Nov. 1. A week later, the Eagles take on SMU on Nov. 8 for the Red Bandanna Game and celebrate Military Appreciation Day.
The SMU game marks BC's 12th Red Bandanna Game presented by Empower, honoring Crowther, who died while saving as many as 12 individuals in the South Tower of the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Boston College wraps up its home slate on Nov. 15 against Georgia Tech for the Jay McGillis Memorial Senior Day Game. McGillis, who was previously remembered with the naming of BC's Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game, will have his legacy honored annually on BC's Senior Day beginning in 2025.
While playing under head coach Tom Coughlin as BC's starting strong safety in 1991, McGillis was diagnosed with leukemia. Following extensive chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant from his older brother, McGillis ultimately passed away in the summer of 1992. McGillis' memory lived on through BC's spring football game in his honor and will continue to be honored with the Jay McGillis '93 Memorial Scholarship Fund, bestowed upon a senior defensive back each year by the BC Gridiron Club. Additionally, Coughlin founded the Jay Fund in 1996 to "help families tackle childhood cancer by providing comprehensive financial, emotional and practical support".
BC football's spring season begins with its first day of practice on March 11. Practices, which are closed to the public, will run through April 12 with no spring football game included on the spring schedule.
