Clougherty Named a Top-Five Finalist for Hockey Humanitarian Award
February 12, 2025 | Women's Hockey
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Senior Keri Clougherty was named one of five finalists for the 2025 Hockey Humanitarian Award, as announced by the Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation on Monday afternoon.
Clougherty becomes the third Eagles to be named a finalist for this prestigious award, joining Brooks Dyroff '13, the 2011 recipient, and Sarah Carlson '05, the 2005 recipient.
The Lynn, Massachusetts native joins Bemidji State's Kendra Fortin, Cornell's Hank Kempf, Merrimack Raice Szott and Saint Lawrence's Sarah Thompson as 2025 finalists.
"I'm extremely honored and grateful to be named a finalist," stated Clougherty. "It means the world to me to work with the communities I have and the impacts they have had on me will last a lifetime. To be surrounded by the other nominees is a privilege and it is amazing to see the work they have done."Â
The award, which is celebrating its 30th season, is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community at large through leadership in volunteerism.
Keri has embodied Boston College's Jesuit ideals of "Cura Personalis" or "Care for the Whole Person," constantly striving for spiritual, social, intellectual, and moral excellence since the moment she arrived on the Heights.Â
Since her first year at Boston College, Keri has been involved with Newton Athletes Unlimited. An organization that supports over 300 children and adults with disabilities, offering year-round programs to promote emotional, intellectual, social and physical growth. Each Thursday, Keri organizes a group of teammates to skate with Newton Athletes Unlimited. Athletes skate with and teach people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and disabilities, to learn to skate while having meaningful conversations and establishing friendships. Acting as the liaison between the organization and the Boston College women's hockey team, Keri is in charge of corresponding and coordinating groups to attend each week.Â
This past summer, Keri earned the opportunity to work at the Campus School at Boston College as a student intern. The Campus School is a day school that provides specialized education for students requiring extensive support needs, including complex medical needs for students aged 3 to 22. During her time there she worked with students in and out of the classroom assisting with various services offered and cultivating real relationships with the students. Keri assisted with services such as speech pathology, vision therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, music therapy, augmentative and alternative communication, classroom lessons, sensory activities and more. Some days, her duties were as simple as pushing wheelchairs on walks or spending one-on-one time with students.Â
Keri has been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at BC since her sophomore year. As a senior, she was voted SAAC president by her peers where she now organizes community service events, student-athlete workshops, mental health and wellness events, guest speakers and more. This role designates her as a voice for all student-athletes, something she takes pride in, serving her community as the main contact for all student-athletes for support, advice and more. She has organized a Pen Pal mentorship program, volunteered at the food pantry, and worked alongside Best Buddies and Newton Athletes Unlimited.
Last year, for National Girls & Women in Sports Day, Clougherty organized, planned and facilitated athletic clinics alongside her peers, exposing over 150 young girls to various sports in the Boston community.
Clougherty works with the Allston/Brighton Food Pantry, where she helped to prepare a community meal for over 500 Boston residents. She often volunteers at the local food pantry, where she has helped to organize over 10,000 lbs of food providing hunger relief to vulnerable populations. Alongside Best Buddies, she organized and planned a field day for over 100 participants with disabilities through Newton Athletes Unlimited.
"I'm so happy that Keri was named in the top 5 finalists for the Hockey Humanitarian. She's an amazing person who dedicates her time to helping others in every way she can," commented head coach Kaite Crowley. "I'm so proud of all she has accomplished at Boston College and I know there are great things ahead for her. "
The 2025 Hockey Humanitarian Award will be presented on Friday, April 11th, during the NCAA Men's Frozen Four weekend in Saint Louis, Mo.
