
Women's Basketball Falls at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball fell to UMass on Saturday afternoon, 61-52, in the Mullins Center.
BC falls to 3-4 on the season, while the Minutewomen improve to 5-0.
Lily Carmody and Teionni McDaniel led the Eagles with nine points apiece. Kayla Rolph grabbed a team-best nine rebounds with eight points, and Athena Tomlinson posted four assists.
The Eagles trailed early in the contest as UMass jumped out to a 14-6 lead midway through the first quarter. BC sliced the deficit to one possession thanks to back-to-back field goals from Rolph and McDaniel to end the quarter.
It was a low-scoring second quarter in which both teams shot under 30 percent from the field. Amirah Anderson's buzzer-beating field goal at the end of the half shortened the gap to 32-29 heading into the locker room.
UMass gained momentum in the third when it finished the period on an 8-0 run to go into the final frame with a 48-37 lead. The Eagles made one last push in the fourth when Carmody scored seven of the points in an 8-0 surge to bring the deficit to within seven, 57-50. However, the hosts pulled away for the victory.
BC returns to action on Tuesday when it welcomes Merrimack at 11 a.m. inside Conte Forum.
