Volleyball Sweeps Duke

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team (14-6, 3-5 ACC) swept Duke (5-14, 2-6 ACC) 3-0, (25-18, 25-20, 25-19) Sunday afternoon at the Margot Connell Center.

Audrey Ross led the Eagles with 12 kills, the junior added two aces and contributed over 14 points. Anna Herrington was not far behind tallying nine kills, four block assists and a .400%. Sam Hoppes and Danica Rach both posted seven kills. Aubrey Moore guided the offensive effort contributing 17 assists and 14 digs. Freshman Bella Ehrlich led the defensive effort posting four block assists and one solo block.

The Eagles came out hot taking an early 8-4 lead and setting the tone for the set. Kills from Herrington (4), Hoppes (3), Ross (2), Ehrlich (2) and Rach maintained the lead as BC entered the media timeout up 15-10. With a 5-2 scoring run featuring kills from Herrington (3), Ross and Roach, the Eagles propelled to a 19-12 lead, forcing a Blue Devil timeout. Duke responded with a 5-3 scoring run, shortening the difference to four, pushing a BC timeout. A final 4-1 BC run with two kills from Rach secured the first set for the Eagles. BC took the first set 25-18.

The Eagles once again took an early 8-4 advantage, forcing a Duke timeout. BC maintained their lead though Duke would not let up, staying within six. Going nearly point-for-point, kills from Roach (3), Ross (2), Hoppes (2) and Herrington extended the Eagles advantage to 23-17, forcing a Blue Devil timeout. A couple of attack errors secured the first set for the Eagles, 25-20.

The Eagles came back to even the score at 4-4 and again at 6-6 before going on a 3-0 scoring run with kills from Herrington, Hoppes and Ross to take a 9-6 lead. The Eagles held a 15-10 lead at the media timeout. With a 4-3 BC scoring run, the Eagles held a six-point advantage, forcing a Duke timeout. Going 5-5, the Eagles reached match point with a six-point lead, up 24-18. One final kill from Herrington secured the third set for the Eagles, 25-19.
