
Volleyball Falls 3-0 to #21 North Carolina

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team (13-6, 2-5 ACC) fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-22) to No.21 North Carolina (14-2, 7-0 ACC) Friday night at the Margot Connell Center.
Sam Hoppes and Anna Herrington collectively led the Eagles posting eight kills each. Herrington added two blocks and 10 points. Audrey Ross was close behind posting seven kills and seven points. Freshman Bella Ehrlich posted 3.5 blocks. Sophomore setters Aubrey Moore and Lucy Mott added a combined 21 assists on the night.
The Eagles came out hot taking an early 7-2 lead. Audrey Ross opened up the scoring getting five of BC's first six kills. Going on a 4-1 run, the Eagles led by 5, forcing a UNC timeout. The Tar Heels responded quickly going on an 11-6 scoring run to take a 13-12 lead over the Eagles. Another run by UNC, this time 10-1, pushed the Tar Heels to a 19-12 lead. The Eagles answered with a quick 8-3 run to get within two, trailing 22-20. Two aces from Savannah Curtis evened the score at 22, but it wasn't enough to catch the Tar Heels. UNC took the first set 25-22.
UNC came out strong in the second set, taking an early 8-2 lead to force a BC timeout. The Tar Heels extended their lead to 15-5, while kills from Hoppes (3), Ehrlich and Herrington shortened the gap to nine. Despite a late rally by the Eagles, the Tar Heels took the second set 25-15.
The Eagles and Tar Heels came out battling as the Eagles took a quick 4-2 lead. The Tar Heels responded quickly, doubling the score to take an 8-4 lead over the Eagles. Going on a 7-7 scoring run, the Eagles trailed 15-11 at the media timeout. Going on a 5-4 run with kills from Herrington (2) and blocks from Ehrlich, Herrington, Hoppes, Marjanovic and Milliken (2), the Eagles shortened the gap to 1, trailing 18-17, forcing a Tar Heel timeout. A kill from Marjanovic evened the score at 18, while another put the Eagles in the lead. A 6-0 Tar Heel run put UNC back out front, taking a 24-19 lead. With three errors, the Eagles were within two, trailing 24-22, but one final kill from UNC sealed the deal. The Tar Heels took the third set 25-22.
