BC Hosts Red Bandanna Invitational on Sept. 23-24

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's golf team hosts the 2024 Red Bandanna Invitational, held at Blue Hill Country Club in Milton, from Sept. 23-24.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Monday morning with a shotgun start. Teams will play 36 holes in continuous format, followed by Tuesday's third and final round. The Eagles will be paired with Boston University and Quinnipiac and individuals, teeing off on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd holes.

The tournament, previously contested as the Boston College Intercollegiate, honors the memory of Welles Crowther '99 - "The Man in the Red Bandanna." Crowther, who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, was an equities trader with Sandler O'Neill on the 104th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. A volunteer firefighter in Nyack, N.Y., Crowther spearheaded a rescue effort from the Sky Lobby on the 78th floor and is credited with saving more than a dozen lives. Survivors recalled being saved by a man wearing a Red Bandanna. Crowther had worn a Red Bandanna, given to him by his father, Jefferson, since he was a child growing up in Nyack, N.Y. He carried it wherever he went and, while a student-athlete at BC, he always wore one beneath his lacrosse uniform.

Designed in 1925 by Eugene "Skip" Wogan, the 18-hole Championship Course at Blue Hill C.C. has fully matured into a golfer's haven. The Championship course was restored in 2003 by renowned designer Ron Prichard, while its tree-lined fairways and lush rolling terrain remain more picturesque than ever, this course makes every golf outing an unforgettable experience. The par 72 layout evokes memories of time-honored golf as each of the 18 holes is unique in its nature and deserving of praise.
