Eagles Split the Day at LSU Invitational

BC defeated North Florida in four sets then fell to LSU in four sets
BATON ROUGE, La.-- The Boston College volleyball team kicked off the LSU Invitational defeating North Florida in four sets Thursday afternoon. The Eagles then closed the night falling to LSU in four sets.
In the Eagles first match of the day Halle Schroder earned her fifth double-double of the season with 22 kills and 12 digs. Schroder matched her career-high 22 kills on a .255 hitting percentage adding on three blocks. Morgan Riddle finished the match with a season and team-high 17 digs. Middle blockers Julia Haggerty and Cornelia Roach logged a team best five blocks. Jane Petrie guided the offense distributing 20 assists with three digs and one ace.Â
As a team, the Eagles added on 12 service aces, a season best. Brooklyn Yelland led the match with a career high four aces. Lambros and Schroder followed with three each.Â
In the loss of the day against LSU. BC was led by Audrey Ross, who logged 13 kills, two blocks, two digs and hitting .414 percent. Setter Sophia Lambros finished the match with her fourth double-double of the season adding 22 assists and a career high 20 digs leading the defense. Julia Haggerty led the match with eight blocks tacking on eight kills. Schroder and Anna Herrington both contributed to the offense adding 12 and 11 kills respectively. Schroder added two aces while Herrington added six blocks.Â
VS. North Florida
SET 1: The Eagles responded to take the first set after North Florida had an early 3-1 advantage. After being down 11-9 in the first frame, BC rallied off four to take a short 13-12 lead. The Ospreys responded on a 4-0 run to reclaim the lead. The Eagles bounced back from a one point deficit to reclaim the lead on a 5-0 run led by back-to-back service aces from Sophia Lambros, the Eagles took the first set 25-20.
SET 2: The Ospreys took an early advantage in set two, on a 3-0 run to open the second frame. The Eagles and Ospreys were back and forth until the Eagles took six of the next nine points to lock the set at six. BC created some separation on multiple runs taking a 19-8 lead. Schroder led the charge adding on three kills. North Florida rallied on a 4-1 run, but the second set was all Boston College, closing the set 25-15.
SET 3: North Florida put the Eagles down early with a three point run. Both teams traded points until a three point run by the Eagles tied the set 5-5. UNF reclaimed the lead responding on a four point run. The Eagles claimed the lead for the first time in the third set off of a five point run led by Schroder adding two kills. The Eagles expanded the margin making it a five point game, until an Osprey run closed the gap. North Florida moved on its momentum taking the third set 25-22.Â
SET 4: The Eagles took an early advantage in set four, 6-3. The Ospreys were able to close the gap making it a two point game, until the Eagles secured six of the next eight points to take the 13-7 advantage. The Ospreys would answer, followed by another run by the Eagles, a trend that continued until the 16-13 mark. Boston College secured set four taking nine of the next 10 points. The Eagles closed out the match on a 5-0 run led by attacks from Julia Haggerty and Audrey Ross.Â
VS. LSU
SET 1: After trading score for the first 14 points of the opening set. The Tigers broke the locked score on multiple two point runs. Both teams continued to trade points, but the Eagles were never able to close the margin within four. LSU capitalized on their first match-point opportunity to capture the first set. Â
SET 2: LSU earned the first two points in set two before BC answered with seven unanswered points. The Tigers clawed their way back into contention, keeping themselves within striking distance for a late push. A three-point swing drew the Tigers within four (14-10), forcing an Eagle timeout. LSU put together nine more points to the Eagles four for the first Tiger lead of the second set. Ross, Haggerty, and Herrington responded, each adding one to the board to take a 21-19 advantage in the second set forcing a Tiger timeout. Boston College fought to hold the lead, but the Eagles were not able to capture the set, dropping set two 25-22.
SET 3: The third set opened evenly trading points and meeting 2-2. From then on BC controlled the third set, earning the next eight points with three coming on kills from Herrington. LSU surged back taking seven of the next ten points. BC eventually pushed their lead to as much as 11 towards the end of the third set. Thanks to another eight point run to close out the set with a 25-14 victory. The Eagles finished the set hitting .357.
 SET 4: In the deciding set, LSU held a 7-4 advantage. The Eagles fought their way back on a six point run, claiming the lead 12-9, forcing a LSU timeout. Both teams traded points, until the Tigers rallied on a seven point run to regain the advantage. The Eagles were not able to close the match out, as LSU claimed the fourth set.Â
The Eagles return to action tomorrow to face-off San Diego at 1:00 P.M. at the Maravich Center.Â
