Preseason Notebook: Day 6
August 09, 2024 | Football
After Thursday’s off-day, the Eagles returned to the field.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College football held practice No. 6, its final acclimatization day before donning full pads on Saturday, inside Fish Field House.
DAY SIX DETAILS
Date: August 9
Location: Fish Field House
Weather: 71, foggy and rainy
Offensive Highlights: Running backs Kye Robichaux and Treshaun Ward continued to run hard when called upon in team periods. Quarterback Thomas Castellanos is developing on-field connections with a deeper crop of receivers, including multiple completions to grad transfer tight end from UNC Kamari Morales and wide receiver Reed Harris, a redshirt-freshman that played in four games a year ago. Starting a drive at the minus-25, Castellanos hit Robichaux on a roll out and capped the drive with a touchdown to Harris, in the back of the end zone, after going through his progressions. Defensive lineman-turned-offensive lineman Eryx Daugherty made the key block, getting into the second level, on a long-catch-and-run that pushed the offense over midfield. In goal-to-go scenarios, Castellanos ran for a touchdown on third down from the five and fellow quarterback Grayson James found Montrell Wade for six.
Defensive Highlights: The first team period of the day was dominated by the defense with multiple sacks, including one from Donovan Ezeiruaku, while Neto Okpala provided pressure from the weakside. Linebacker Kam Arnold stuffed the run and provided a sack on the same series. Defensive back Kahlil Ali was credited with a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble. In red zone, Okpala stopped a first-down run with a tackle for loss. Sedarius McConnell blew up another first-down run and linebacker Owen McGowan made a diving pass-breakup in the end zone on third-and-goal.
Special Teams: The Eagles punting unit got a lot of reps today with Sam Candotti booming the ball into the rafters and dropping the ball inside the five-yard line. Ivan Zivenko's first kick was downed at the four-yard line by Luke McLaughlin. [From Wednesday] Liam Connor hit field goals of 48 and 50 yards in the final period of practice.
