
Sapienza, Costello and Willebrandt Named 2024 Captains

The veteran trio have been named the Boston College women’s soccer team captains for the upcoming season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Emily Sapienza, Sarai Costello and Wiebke Willebrandt will serve as captains of the 2024 Boston College women's soccer team, it was announced by head coach Chris Watkins.Â
"I am excited to name this trio as the captains of our women's soccer program," Watkins said. "Sarai, Wiebke and Emily have been clear leaders in our locker room and I'm excited to work closely with them this Fall."
Sapienza, is a graduate student forward who started in all 18 contests, logging 1304 minutes this past season. She played the full 90 in five games while recording 26 shots with nine shots landing on goal. Sapienza finished the season with two assists that tied for second-best on the team.Â
Costello, is a senior defender and a proven leader on the backline. Led the team in minutes play logging 1619 minutes last season. She started in all 18 games last season logging the full 90 minutes in all of those. She was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the second time last season.Â
Willebrandt, a graduate student goalkeeper starting in all 18 games a season ago, posted three shutouts with a .857 save percentage. She made a career-high 14 saves against Pitt (Sept. 30), also made at least seven saves in four games. Willebrandt opened the season with a shoutout for the third consecutive season.Â
